18-Inch FPV Drone: Heavy-Lift, Long-Range Platform for 20KG Payloads
When most people think about FPV drones, they think of compact 5-inch freestyle builds or small cinematic platforms. But for applications that require significantly more payload capacity, longer flight time, and a larger power system, the platform needs to be built on a completely different scale.
This is where an 18-inch FPV drone becomes interesting.
At DRONESSET, we offer large 18-inch FPV platforms designed for heavy-payload and long-range applications. These drones are built around high-power brushless motors, large carbon-fiber frames, 12S battery systems, F722 flight controllers, and high-power 5.8GHz video transmission.
We recently photographed the physical build of these platforms at the factory, giving us an opportunity to show what an 18-inch heavy-lift FPV drone actually looks like beyond a product specification sheet.
Why Build an 18-Inch FPV Drone?
A larger FPV platform provides considerably more space and lifting capacity than a conventional 5-inch or 7-inch drone.
The larger frame allows the drone to accommodate bigger motors, larger propellers, higher-capacity batteries, and heavier payloads while maintaining the structural strength required for demanding flights.
Our 18-inch platform uses 5020 230KV brushless motors and supports 8–12S power systems. The carbon-fiber frame uses T300/T700 carbon material, with a reinforced structure designed around the demands of a large FPV aircraft.
Depending on the configuration, the platform can support payloads ranging from 8kg up to 20kg.

Two 18-Inch Configurations for Different Requirements
The 18-inch platform is available in different configurations depending on the intended application.
The first configuration is designed around an 8–20kg payload range and a 10km flying distance. With an 8kg payload, the published flight time is approximately 25 minutes, while the unloaded flight time can reach around 40 minutes under the specified test conditions.
This version uses a 5.8GHz 3W VTX, F722 flight controller, 5020 230KV motors, and 12S-capable electronics.
For customers who need additional stability and longer-range capability, we also offer a 6-axis 18-inch FPV Drone configuration.
The 6-axis version uses a larger hexacopter-style carbon frame and is designed for a 15–20kg payload range, with a specified flying distance of approximately 10–20km depending on the configuration and operating conditions.

With an 18kg payload, the published flight time is approximately 20 minutes, while the unloaded flight time is around 40 minutes.
This configuration also uses 5020 230KV motors, a 120A 12S ESC, F722 flight controller, 3W 5.8GHz VTX, and ELRS 915MHz receiver.

Built Around a High-Power FPV System
Large FPV drones require more than simply increasing the frame size.
The propulsion system, ESC, battery, flight controller, video transmission, receiver, and structural components all need to work together as a complete system.
Our 18-inch platform uses 5020 230KV motors designed for 8–12S operation. The motors can deliver substantial power while driving large 18-inch propellers.
The F722 flight controller provides the central flight-control platform, while the 6-axis configuration adds a larger hexacopter frame for applications where additional stability and lifting capacity are important.
For FPV video transmission, the platform supports a 5.8GHz 3W VTX. The 6-axis configuration also supports ELRS 915MHz control, providing a long-range control option for appropriately configured systems.

Designed for Payload, Not Just Speed
A heavy-lift FPV drone should not be judged only by its maximum speed.
For larger platforms, payload capacity, flight time, structural strength, power efficiency, and control reliability are equally important.
The standard 18-inch configuration is specified for up to 20kg of payload, while the 6-axis version is designed around a 15–20kg payload range.
Actual flight performance will depend on payload weight, battery configuration, weather, flight style, and the equipment installed on the drone. For this reason, payload and flight-time figures should be treated as configuration-specific performance data rather than universal results for every setup.
From Factory Build to Custom Configuration
One of the advantages of working with a large FPV platform is the ability to customize the configuration around a specific application.
The 18-inch frame can be supplied as a frame-only platform or as a more complete RTF configuration, depending on the selected product version.
Customers can also discuss changes to motors, ESCs, flight controllers, video transmission systems, receivers, cameras, batteries, and other components before ordering.
This makes the platform suitable for customers who already have their preferred FPV electronics, as well as customers who want a complete configuration prepared for a specific payload or operating requirement.
DRONESSET also supports bulk orders and custom configurations, making these platforms suitable for both individual projects and larger procurement requirements.

Real Factory Photos, Real Hardware
We believe large FPV drones are easier to understand when you can see the actual hardware.
The photos in this article were taken from the physical production and assembly process, showing the frame structure, motors, electronics, wiring, and overall size of the 18-inch platform.
For customers considering a large FPV drone, these details can be just as important as the specification sheet.
A product page can tell you the motor model, payload rating, and flight range. Factory and product photos help show how the system is actually constructed.

Who Is an 18-Inch FPV Drone For?
An 18-inch FPV platform is not intended to replace a small freestyle drone.
It is designed for applications where a larger aircraft is required because of payload, endurance, range, or equipment requirements.
Typical applications may include:
• Heavy-payload FPV development
• Long-range FPV platforms
• Professional aerial systems
• Inspection and mapping equipment
• Custom camera and sensor platforms
• Experimental UAV projects
• Commercial and industrial drone projects
The exact suitability depends on the payload, operating environment, flight-control configuration, local regulations, and the equipment installed on the aircraft.
Choosing the Right 18-Inch FPV Configuration
If your priority is a large payload platform with a straightforward FPV configuration, the standard 18-inch version provides a strong starting point with an 8–20kg payload specification and 10km flying distance.
If you need additional stability, a larger hexacopter structure, and a longer-range configuration, the 6-axis 18-inch platform provides another option, with a specified 10–20km range and 15–20kg payload positioning.
For either configuration, we recommend discussing your intended payload, battery setup, control system, video transmission requirements, and desired flight time before ordering.
Our team can help match the configuration to your requirements and discuss available customization options.
